Amidst spiralling violence and massive countrywide protests, the Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman is set to address the nation at 3pm. There are reports that PM Sheikh Hasina has left the capital Dhaka in the face of mass protests demanding her resignation.
Reports of demonstrations have come in from places like Jatrabari, the Central Shaheed Minar, Badda, Uttara, and Mirpur.
People started coming out onto the streets around 1:30pm on Monday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has confirmed that the Army Chief is to address the nation. They requested the public to avoid violence and remain patient until that time.
Meanwhile , PM Sheikh Hasina and her sister have left the official residence Gono Bhaban for a safer place,” according to reports.
At least six people were killed in clashes on Monday between police and protesters in Jatrabari and Dhaka Medical College areas.
On Sunday, around 100 people were killed in clashes between protesters demanding the resignation of PM Hasina, and supporters of her party Awami League and its students wing.
