Agartala, 4th July 2025:  A dispute over a mobile SIM card escalated into a violent assault in the Purathal Rajnagar area of Bishalgarh subdivision leaving three family members injured, one critically.

According to sources, the incident took place when Ershad Mia allegedly demanded a mobile SIM card from his sister-in-law, Rehena Begum, wife of Billal Miah. Rehena reportedly refused to provide the SIM, citing Ershad’s suspected links to cross-border smuggling activities in Bangladesh as the reason for her arrest.

In retaliation, Ershad Mia accompanied by his associates allegedly arrived at Rehena Begum’s residence late last night and forcibly brought out Rehena, Asma Akhter and Soleman Khan before brutally assaulting them with wooden sticks.

All three sustained injuries, with Soleman Khan in critical condition and currently receiving treatment at GB Pant Hospital.

It has also been alleged that Ershad Mia conducted the attack in the presence of local Congress leaders. Those accused alongside him include Harun Mia, Mamun Mia, Babul Mia and Humayun Mia.

This afternoon, the victims and their family members lodged a formal complaint with Madhupur Police Station demanding immediate action against the accused.
