Agartala, 6th July 2025: Eight Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) while travelling on the Agartala-Silchar-bound train at Churaibari Railway Station in North District today.
According to official sources, the arrests were made by BSF personnel of Assam’s Sopanjuri 87/97 Battalion, who acted on intelligence inputs and intercepted the group at the Churaibari checkpoint, a key transit route on the Tripura-Assam border.
All eight individuals hail from the Nawabganj area of Rajshahi district in Bangladesh. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Nuimon, Mohammad Sohel, Rakibul, Mohammad Siam, Mohammad Shakil, Mohammad Rubel, Mohammad Rian, Mohammad Iqbal. Sources said the group had entered India illegally and were attempting to return to Bangladesh via Agartala without valid documents. The BSF personnel brought the detainees to the office of the Superintendent of Police, North District, on Sunday morning for further verification. Their identities and addresses were confirmed during the initial interrogation, and the process for their deportation is underway. “As per the Government of India’s prevailing policy, necessary legal action will be taken and they will be deported accordingly,” a BSF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) said.
