Three Youths Held with Ganja worth Rs 1 lakh at Agartala Railway Station

Agartala, 8th July 2025:  In a late-night joint operation on July 7, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala Railway Station arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized over 3 kg of dry cannabis (ganja) from their possession.

According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Agartala GRP police station, the accused were apprehended while preparing to board a train with the contraband. The seized ganja, weighing 3.240 kg, was packed in a single packet and concealed inside a bag.

During preliminary interrogation, the trio confessed that they were en route to Chennai with the intention to sell the ganja there. They claimed that the cannabis could fetch around Rs 1 lakh in chennai.

Following the seizure, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP police station. Authorities suspect a larger network behind the smuggling attempt, and further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Kabir Hossain (25) resident of North Shilgati Jamiya Tila, under Kakraban police station, Gomati district, Jagir Mia (24) hailing from Sepahijala district, Tripura and Manik Mia (25) also a resident of Sepahijala district, Tripura.

All three were produced before the court today.
