Agartala, 9th July 2025 : Manik Dey, president of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Tripura unit asserted that the people of the state have extended moral support to the nationwide strike (Bharat Bandh), defying alleged attempts by the ruling party to undermine the movement over the past month.
In a press conference held at the CITU state headquarters, Dey said that despite efforts to suppress the bandh, around 80% of vehicles in Tripura remained off the roads on Wednesday. While a few were reportedly forced into service, many of them returned midway due to the absence of passengers. Urban areas witnessed nearly 70% compliance, while the response from rural regions was described as “near total.”
He also added that educational institutions remained largely empty, as students refrained from attending classes. “This overall response marks the bandh as a significant success in Tripura,” Dey stated. He further claimed that the strike also had a widespread impact across southern India.
