Agartala, 19th July 2025: In a strong show of support for the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, Rajya Sabha MP and Pradesh BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee today participated in a mass sapling plantation drive along the Bypass Road stretch from Khayerpur to Amtali in Agartala.
The event was part of a national movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote environmental consciousness while paying tribute to the nurturing spirit of motherhood.
Joining the plantation drive were several local dignitaries, including Khayerpur MLA Ratan Chakraborty, who actively participated in the tree-planting activities alongside the BJP state chief.
Speaking to the media personnel during the event, Bhattacharjee commended the campaign’s growing momentum and its appeal among citizens. “This campaign has evolved into a mass movement. People are connecting emotionally with the idea of planting a tree in their mother’s name — a symbolic gesture that combines ecological responsibility with cultural values,” he said.
Citing the Prime Minister’s call for environmental care, Bhattacharjee reiterated the message that a sapling should be nurtured like one’s own child, and once fully grown, it will in turn protect and nourish life, much like a mother.
Acknowledging the environmental cost of rapid infrastructure expansion, the MP pointed out that Tripura has witnessed the development of nine new National Highways under PM Modi’s leadership. However, he noted that such growth has also led to the felling of many trees. To address this, Bhattacharjee proposed a sustainable practice: “For every tree that is cut for development, we must plant at least six and ensure they grow to maturity.”
He urged Ministers, MLAs, and party workers to actively participate in afforestation efforts, particularly along National Highway corridors, as a measure to restore ecological balance. The MP also highlighted the enthusiastic role of BJP karyakartas across the state in spreading the campaign’s message and transforming it into action at the grassroots level.
The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, with its dual focus on environmental sustainability and emotional connection, continues to gain traction in Tripura and beyond, aligning individual acts of care with a larger vision for a greener future.
