Agartala, 21st July 2025: In a major step toward empowering farmers, the Tripura government will begin direct procurement of paddy at Minimum Support Price (MSP) from July 26. The procurement will cover the current Rabi season’s harvest and aims to secure over 14 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.
The initiative is being jointly undertaken by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
To ensure smooth execution, a high-level video conference meeting was held today at the state Secretariat’s conference hall. The meeting was jointly chaired by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
Also present were Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of various Panchayat Samitis, Sub-Divisional Administrators, Block Development Officers, Deputy Directors of the Agriculture Department, agricultural supervisors, and officers from the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
Officials informed that the meeting focused on ensuring a seamless and transparent procurement process across all districts.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Ratan Lal Nath reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers. He emphasized the importance of timely procurement and prompt payment to the cultivators.Both ministers urged officials at every administrative level to work in close coordination for effective implementation of the drive.
The direct procurement initiative is expected to offer a significant economic boost to farmers by ensuring fair market prices for their produce and reinforcing the government’s push for sustainable agriculture in Tripura.
