Agartala, 23rd July 2025: The Government of Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Department has officially empanelled 22 private universities, colleges, and institutes under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Post-Matric Scholarship” (CSS) for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students.

According to a memorandum issued by the department, this empanelment is in line with directives from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), Government of India, which has made it mandatory for states and UTs to identify and empanel private institutions offering higher education to ST students. These institutions are expected to comply with guidelines outlined in the official scholarship regulations.

In view of a substantial number of ST students from Tripura studying in mainland institutions, the Directorate of Higher Education identified 24 institutions within Tripura for empanelment. However, only 22 institutions submitted the required undertakings and have been fully empanelled. The remaining two institutions Tripura Medical College, Hapania, and Holy Cross College, Lembucherra failed to submit the requisite documentation despite repeated follow-ups.

The empanelled institutions are now eligible to disburse benefits under the CSS scheme via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The memorandum outlines key conditions for empanelment: No fees should be demanded from eligible ST students even if there is a delay in scholarship disbursement; Students must be allowed to sit for examinations and attend classes regardless of their scholarship payment status; and Institutions must comply fully with scholarship regulations.

The Tribal Welfare Department has clearly stated that any inconvenience faced by students due to the failure of institutions to meet these requirements will rest solely with the defaulting colleges.

The authorities of all 24 institutions have been directed to circulate the memorandum widely via notice boards, websites, and prospectuses.

A complete list of the 22 empanelled institutions, including ICFAI University, Techno India University, Bhavan’s Tripura College of Science and Technology, Tripura Sundari Nursing College, and others, is appended as Annexure-A in the memorandum.

For updates, stakeholders are encouraged to visit the Department’s official website and Facebook page.

The memorandum was issued by Subhasis Das, Additional Secretary to the Government of Tripura yesterday.
