Agartala, 23rd July 2025: Tripura Traffic Department has recovered a stolen motorcycle from the Battala area here today. However, the accused rider managed to flee the scene taking advantage of the congested traffic.
The recovery took place near the Old Howrah Bridge when a vigilant team comprising ASI Biplab Datta, Constable Pankaj Debnath and Special Police Officers Sohini Datta and Ripon Roy spotted a suspicious bike with a tampered and illegible number plate. Upon stopping the vehicle, the rider failed to furnish any valid documents.
Based on inputs from SPO Ripon Roy, who recalled a pending theft case involving a similar vehicle in Nischintapur under Amtali police station limits, the team attempted to detain the rider. Sensing trouble, the suspect escaped amid the evening rush, eluding immediate capture.
Following verification, the motorcycle was identified as belonging to Prasenjit Choudhury of Nischintapur. Today, Traffic DSP Dipak Kumar Sarkar formally handed over the recovered vehicle to Choudhury.
Addressing the media, DSP Sarkar said the recovery is part of an intensified enforcement campaign running from July 15 to July 25, aimed at curbing rising cases of vehicle thefts and related crimes in the city. He commended the prompt action of the traffic personnel and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to ensuring road safety and crime prevention.
