Agartala, 24th July 2025:  The Higher Education department has placed Dr. Abhijit Nath, Assistant Professor of Ramthakur College under immediate suspension following allegations of serious irregularities in the ongoing admission process for the 1st Semester Undergraduate Courses for 2025-26.

The suspension order issued by Raval Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary of the department cites a report published in a vernacular daily on July 19, 2025. The report alleged that Dr. Nath was involved in “illegal and unauthorized activities” relating to student admissions.

According to the preliminary information submitted by the Principal of Ramthakur College, Dr. Nath admitted in writing to having taken 50 admission fee cards from the college office and keeping them at his home without authorization. While he later returned 28 of those cards, he failed to provide any explanation for the remaining 22.

However, the Principal’s factual report indicates a much larger discrepancy, stating that “as many as 120 fee cards were taken by Dr. Nath from the office.”

Further investigation by the college revealed that 69 students, whose names were not in the official admission list were found in possession of fee cards bearing forged signatures of college authorities.

“In view of the prima facie findings, it appears that Dr. Nath was involved in a serious malpractice, forgery and a gross violation of admission norms,” the government order stated.

Invoking Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, the department has suspended Dr. Nath with immediate effect.

The order also restricts Dr. Nath from leaving Agartala without prior permission. “The headquarters of Dr. Abhijit Nath shall be at Agartala, West Tripura and he shall not leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the undersigned,” the order added.
