Agartala, 25th July 2025: The Tripura Higher Education Department has suspended Dr. Santanu Majumder, Assistant Professor at Government Degree College (GDC), Kamalpur, following the circulation of a viral video showing him and a student engaging in inappropriate behavior within college premises.
According to an official memo, a preliminary report submitted by the college’s disciplinary committee forwarded by GDC Kamalpur’s Principal Dr Abhijit Sarkar confirmed Dr. Majumder’s involvement in the incident. The professor reportedly admitted that his actions were a lapse in judgment.
The order signed by Raval H. Kumar, Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura states that the conduct undermined the dignity and decorum of the institution and compromised the integrity of the teaching profession.
Effective immediately, Dr. Majumder has been placed under suspension. During this period, he will remain headquartered at ICV College, Belonia, South Tripura, and must report to the Principal of ICV College. Any travel from headquarters requires prior approval.
