Agartala, 26th July 2025: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police at the Baijalbari Naka point intercepted a vehicle carrying illegal substances valued at nearly ₹10 lakh yesterday late night. The vehicle was en route from Dharmanagar to Agartala.
According to police sources, the vehicle, bearing registration number TR05 F 1685, was stopped during a routine inspection. Despite the driver producing documents claiming the cargo contained medicinal items, officers detected discrepancies that prompted a detailed search.
“During the inspection, we recovered 1,200 bottles of Phensedyl, concealed in ten separate packets,” a senior police official said. “This cough syrup contains codeine, a controlled substance, and is frequently misused, making it a high-demand item in the black market.”
Two individuals—identified as Sujit and Papon—have been arrested in connection with the case. Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the consignment and identify the wider network involved in its distribution.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance to curb the illegal transport of narcotics and psychotropic substances across the state.
