Agartala, 27th July 2025: With a renewed sense of purpose and unity, an inspiring marathon was held on Sunday morning in Bishalgarh to promote a drug-free Tripura. The event flagged off from the BSF camp in Rastarmatha under Bishalgarh subdivision drew enthusiastic participation from youth and community leaders alike.
Organized with the mission of curbing the rise of drug abuse among young people, the event was formally inaugurated by Bishalgarh’s BJP MLA Sushanta Deb. Addressing the gathering, Deb emphasized the urgent need for awareness and action: “A strong and developed Tripura is possible only if our young generation is free from drugs. Sports and awareness activities can guide the youth in the right direction.”
According to local authorities, drug addiction among the state’s youth has surged alarmingly, often leading to social challenges such as theft and robbery. Families across Tripura continue to bear the emotional toll, prompting calls for proactive intervention.
The marathon aimed not only to encourage physical activity but also to spotlight the social consequences of substance abuse. Bishalgarh SDM Rakesh Das, Mandal President Tapan Das, Municipal Council Chairman Anjan Purkayastha and various local leaders joined the initiative, walking and cheering alongside participants.
Community response was overwhelmingly positive. Residents expressed support for more such awareness-driven events, with organizers confirming plans to sustain the campaign.
“This isn’t just about running it’s about redirecting energy towards something meaningful,” said one volunteer.
