Agartala, 28th July 2025: In a positive development for connectivity between the Northeast and northern India, Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has directed officials to conduct an operational feasibility study for launching a special train service between Agartala and Haridwar on a weekly basis.
This move follows a request from Tripura’s Lok Sabha Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb, who on July 19th urged the Railway Minister to consider the introduction of this special train.
In a letter addressed to MP Deb, Minister Vaishnaw stated, “The concerned officials have been instructed to assess the operational feasibility for the introduction of a new special train running once a week between Agartala and Haridwar. Subsequent steps will be taken based on the findings of this study.”
Expressing his gratitude, MP Deb thanked the Union Railway Minister for prioritizing this demand. “I sincerely thank Hon’ble Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji for his prompt attention and efforts toward fulfilling the long-standing demand for a weekly special train connecting Agartala and Haridwar,” said the MP.
