Agartala, 2nd August 2025:   In a review meeting ahead of National Handloom Day, Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Saturday emphasized the cultural and economic significance of the state’s handloom industry, calling it “the pride of our Bengal — a symbol of art, culture and uniqueness.”

The minister noted that the meeting had engaged in “constructive discussions on the development of the state’s handloom industry, the welfare of the weavers, and ways to connect the younger generation with this tradition.” He highlighted the importance of strengthening the sector not just through policy, but also through public participation.

“National Handloom Day is not just a one-day event. It is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to our culture, tradition and local industry,” Debbarma stated.

He further informed that specific instructions had been issued to relevant departments to ensure the active participation of handloom artists across districts, including Agartala.

Calling upon citizens and stakeholders to contribute to the success of the upcoming event, he added, “This time too, your active participation and cooperation is desirable to make the National Handloom Day program a success. Let us all together take this proud industry of ours a step further.”

The National Handloom Day celebration is expected to showcase the artistry and heritage of Tripura’s weaving communities, with cultural exhibitions, artisan workshops and youth engagement initiatives planned across the state.
