Agartala, 11th August 2025:   A man suspected to be a Bangladeshi national was detained by locals this afternoon in the Court Market area of Kailashahar, Unakoti district. He was later handed over to the police for further investigation.

According to eyewitnesses, the man identified as Selim Sheikh was selling towels in the market when his inconsistent responses during casual conversation raised suspicion. Though he claimed to be from West Bengal, he failed to answer basic questions about the state’s chief minister, India’s prime minister, the local police station or the area’s MLA.

Authorities confirmed that the man was not carrying any valid identification documents. Kailashahar police have initiated an inquiry to verify his identity.
