Agartala, 12th August 2025: Tensions flared in Tripura’s political circles following a violent assault on a BJP booth president’s residence in the Hirachhara tea garden area, allegedly carried out by Congress-affiliated miscreants. The attack left BJP supporter Chandan Das severely injured, resulting in the loss of one eye, prompting the Kailashahar BJP Mandal Committee to submit a formal deputation to the District Superintendent of Police demanding swift arrests.
The deputation was led by Kailashahar Mandal President Pritam Ghosh, BJP State Committee member Nitish Dey, and Unakoti District Yuva Morcha President Arup Dhar along with other party leaders.
BJP State Committee member Nitish Dey said that the assault occurred around 11 PM on August 6, when a group of alleged Congress-backed attackers stormed the home of Hirachhara booth president Ashish Das. The attackers—identified as Farooq Ali, Sultan Ali and Rajaram Munda among others reportedly beat men, women and children indiscriminately. Chandan Das sustained critical injuries during the attack.
Dey further alleged that the assailants had long been attempting to illegally occupy land in the Hirachhara tea garden area. On the night of the incident, Chandan Das was shot in the eye with an airgun in front of police personnel. He was initially taken to Unakoti District Hospital and later transferred to GBP Hospital in Agartala. Due to the severity of his condition, he was moved to Nepal for specialized treatment, where doctors were forced to surgically remove the damaged eye.
Despite submitting a deputation to Irani Police Station on August 11, BJP leaders claim no action was taken within 24 hours. As a result, they approached the District SP Sudhambika R. with renewed demands for justice.
Mandal President Pritam Ghosh stated that the District Police Chief has assured them that the accused will be arrested within the next 24 hours.
