BRO’s project Swastik reopens Sanklang Bridge, restores lifeline in North Sikkim

Date:

The Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) 107 Road Construction Company (RCC), operating under HQ 758 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) and the HQ Chief Engineer of Project Swastik, has successfully opened the Sanklang Modular Bridge over the Teesta River.
This development restores an essential connectivity link in North Sikkim, reconnecting remote regions that have long relied on this crucial route.
The bridge has been constructed over the fast-flowing Teesta River, an area notorious for extreme high-flow conditions and unstable slopes. It serves as a key alternative to the Mangan–Chungthang corridor and ensures that people and goods can once again move safely to Dzongu, Lachen, and Lachung.
BRO officials described the project as “high-altitude engineering at its toughest,” given the harsh weather, treacherous terrain, and logistical challenges involved.
During construction, BRO engineers and personnel had to tackle strong river currents, shifting riverbanks, and the difficulties of transporting heavy materials to remote mountainous areas.
Despite these challenges, the bridge was completed in record time, a testament to the
organisation’s dedication and technical expertise.
With the opening of the Sanklang Modular Bridge, essential supplies, emergency services, and tourism are expected to resume smoothly in the upper reaches of North Sikkim.
Local communities in Dzongu and nearby regions now look forward to improved access to healthcare, education, and markets.
Traders and transporters in the region have expressed relief, noting that the bridge will significantly reduce travel time and logistical hurdles.
