Agartala, 13th August 2025: While Tripura continues to tout progress under its “double engine” government, promising doorstep water delivery through flagship schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission and Atal Jal Dhara, residents of Deovalley ADC Village in the Pabiacherra assembly constituency are grappling with a starkly different reality.
The village, home to numerous families, once had a functioning water pump installed to supply drinking water via pipeline. However, the pump reportedly broke down shortly after installation, leaving the community in a prolonged state of water scarcity.
With no repair or replacement in sight, villagers have resorted to collecting water that trickles down from nearby hills especially during the monsoon season. “Rainwater is our lifeline,” said one local woman. “When it doesn’t rain, we face severe hardship. It’s hard to believe we still rely on hill water in this day and age.”
The situation has raised questions about the effectiveness of development initiatives in remote tribal areas. Locals are urging authorities to take immediate action to resolve the crisis and ensure access to safe drinking water.
As the government continues to highlight its achievements, the plight of Deovalley’s residents serves as a sobering reminder that infrastructure gaps remain. Whether the administration will respond with concrete measures remains to be seen.
