Agartala, 18th August 2025:   The Tripura Pradesh Congress has announced a statewide agitation against alleged large-scale manipulation of the electoral process and “vote theft” in the state.

Addressing a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Monday, Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha accused the Election Commission of acting in collusion with the BJP-led government. “The most shocking aspect is that the Election Commission has joined hands with the government in a conspiracy to deprive people of their constitutional right to vote,” he alleged.

Saha informed that as part of the Congress’ nationwide protest programme, the state unit will carry out an intensive study of the voter list and hold a series of protest programmes from August 22 to September 6. The agitation will begin in Udaipur on August 22, followed by district-level demonstrations across all nine districts. A massive state-wide rally will be organised in Agartala on August 30, where Congress leaders, workers, and supporters from across Tripura are expected to participate. The movement will conclude in Kailashahar on September 6.

Reiterating Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, the Pradesh Congress chief said that since 2014, the Narendra Modi-led BJP government has been “misusing administrative machinery, money, and muscle power to capture state elections.” He further claimed that the Election Commission has now been reduced to a “puppet and branch office” of the ruling party.

Saha also cautioned that no genuine voter in Tripura should be wrongfully identified as a foreign national during the electoral process.

Pradesh Youth Congress President Neelkamal Saha and Pradesh Mahila Congress President Sarbani Ghosh were also present at the press conference.
