Agartala, 23rd August 2025:   The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), a coalition partner in the BJP-led government, has announced plans to intensify its long-standing demand for a separate state, reaffirming its commitment to pursue the goal through democratic means.

At a public meeting today in Agartala to mark Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Day, IPFT leaders emphasized that the issue of statehood continues to be the party’s principal political agenda.Cooperation Minister and party general secretary Shukla Charan Noatia recalled the formation of IPFT under late N.C. Debbarma in 2009 and said the demand for full-fledged statehood for the tribal areas remains unchanged. “The past attempts by the Left Front government to suppress our movement could not break our resolve. Today’s gathering proves that our party is united and strong again,” he said.

Noatia alleged that during the Left regime, IPFT rallies were often obstructed, citing an incident in 2016 when the party was not allowed to hold a meeting in Agartala. “In 2025, we are holding this event here again. This reflects our revival,” he asserted.IPFT president Prem Kumar Reang, addressing reporters, underlined the historical significance of TTAADC Day. He said the observance commemorates August 23, 1984, when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi enacted a law in Parliament to safeguard Sixth Schedule communities, laying the foundation for TTAADC.

Reang said the party would soon hold similar programs across districts and subdivisions to mobilize public support. “Our movement will continue with greater strength, and we will place our demand for a separate state before the Centre with renewed energy,” he added.
