Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Monday said that education alone can drive social change, eradicate backwardness, and enable India to compete with the world.
Speaking after inaugurating a coffee table book on the education sector brought out by a private company at Jubilee Hills, the Deputy CM said that society develops only through education, and the government is working with a vision for the next 50 years to strengthen the sector.
He noted that the country’s rapid development was possible due to the strong foundations laid by leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and successive Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers, who established premier institutions under IIIT, REC and UGC.
“Thanks to these institutions, Telugu people have risen to the level of CEOs of top global companies,” he remarked.
Highlighting the state government’s initiatives, Bhatti said 100 ITIs in Telangana have been upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres, with industry-relevant curriculum designed in consultation with experts. A Skill University has also been established to align education with changing social and industrial needs, he added.
The Deputy CM announced that one Young India Integrated Residential School is being set up in each assembly constituency, with an investment of Rs 200 crore on 25 acres. Construction of 104 such schools has already been sanctioned, with facilities for both students and teaching staff.
He further said that a Rs 500-crore building is coming up for Koti Women’s College, which will be named after freedom fighter Veeranari Chakali Ailamma, while Osmania University is being upgraded with modern facilities.
“We are focused on strengthening education and healthcare, which were neglected for the past decade in Telangana,” he said.
Bhatti stressed that public and private institutions must work together for the growth of the education sector.
“The government will address the issues faced by private educational institutions, but our primary commitment is to provide world-class education to the poor,” he said.
