Agartala, 25th August 2025:   In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, police at the Churaibari Watch Post in Tripura intercepted a consignment of narcotic cough syrup valued at approximately ₹3 crore on Monday morning.

Following a brief lull in operations, the anti-narcotics team led by Gate-in-Charge Pranab Mili conducted a routine inspection of a six-wheeled truck bearing West Bengal registration number WB-25N-4370. The vehicle, reportedly transporting assorted retail goods from Kolkata to Tripura, arrived at the checkpoint where officers discovered 30,430 bottles of Eskuf-brand cough syrup concealed inside edible oil tins.

The contraband was cleverly hidden among legitimate cargo, with the syrup bottles packed inside oil containers to evade detection. Police sources confirmed that the seized syrup is classified as a narcotic substance and is in high demand across the border in Bangladesh, where each bottle reportedly sells for ₹1,000 to ₹1,200 on the black market.

Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure: the truck driver, Haminur Islam, and his assistant, Sheikh Alamin, both residents of Shimulia under Deganga Police Station in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. Authorities have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched a full-scale investigation.
