ED raids AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj’s residence; party alleges vendetta

Date:

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today conducted raids at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi state president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, triggering strong reactions from AAP leaders who termed the action a politically motivated attempt to divert public attention from the ongoing debate around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications.
AAP national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the Modi government of “unrelenting vendetta” against his party. In a post on social media platform X, he claimed that no political party in India’s history has been targeted to such an extent.
He asserted that the raids were a response to AAP’s vocal opposition to the Centre’s policies and alleged corruption.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann linked the timing of the raid to the recent nationwide discussion questioning the authenticity of PM Modi’s academic degree. “The entire country has been talking about Modi ji’s degree since Monday. This raid is an effort to divert attention,” he said.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also called the case “completely fake”. He pointed out that the allegations pertain to hospital construction projects from 2018-19, a period during which Bharadwaj was not a minister. “Just as the degree is fake, this case too is fake,” Sisodia stated.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh described the case as “baseless and fabricated”, citing the example of former minister Satyendar Jain, who was jailed for three years before investigative agencies reportedly filed closure reports due to lack of evidence.
AAP’s national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda alleged that the raid was orchestrated to suppress public discourse on PM Modi’s degree. He claimed that such actions follow a pattern where headlines are created to shift media focus.
