North District officials evicted locals from District Council Areas to Settle Outsiders: Pradyot

Agartala, 2nd September 2025:   Tipra Motha Party (TMP) founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday accused the North Tripura district administration of attempting to displace indigenous families from District Council areas to make way for “outsiders.” He urged his party’s MLAs and Members of District Council (MDCs) to stand by the affected people and “expose the truth.”

In a video message, Pradyot alleged that Tripura is the only Northeastern state where indigenous people are being evicted from District Council lands to accommodate outsiders.

“I have received emails from Damcherra in North Tripura, where the district administration along with a company named IGGL is allegedly threatening locals. After they shared visuals and details with me, I spoke with them directly. Today, I also received a letter from the Ranglong Association in Panisagar, stating that the administration is planning to evict families from khas (government) land to build a private township. These people have been living there for generations, but since they lack pattas or official documents, they are being asked to vacate. Isn’t this a violation of law? Only in Tripura are tribals being removed from District Council areas to settle outsiders,” he said.

The royal scion further alleged that while the Tripura Land Revenue (TLR) Act exists, the Sixth Schedule provisions are not being implemented effectively in the state.

“So, tribals will be kept away from District Council land while outsiders are settled? Without their consent, gas and oil resources will be exploited. And when they protest, they are arrested?” Pradyot questioned. He also rebuked Tipra Motha’s elected representatives, asking whether they had received tickets and posts “to sit at home while our people are suffering.”

“I have told my warriors, MLAs, and MDCs not to forget their roots. You must raise your voice for the poor and their rights. This is not a communal issue—Tiprasas are being evicted from TTAADC areas while we remain silent. If it is happening in Panisagar today, it may happen in your village tomorrow. If you fail to show unity now, no one will stand with you in the future. This is about self-respect and our land. If our Tiprasa people are suffering, this is not the time to sit at home—you must go out, support them, and expose those who are helping outsiders settle in ADC areas,” he asserted.
