Agartala, 2nd September 2025:   Farmers are the backbone of Tripura’s development, and the present state government plans to harness agriculture, tourism, and allied sectors including solar and forestry to drive sustainable growth and benefit the state as a whole.

This was said by Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today while attending an Oil Palm plantation at Fatikchhara Tea Garden today.

The Minister said that the state is not self-sufficient in edible oil, which needs to be imported from other countries, and for that, a huge amount of money drains out to other countries. That is why Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that we also have to become self-sufficient in edible oil.

He said that this is the one and only Prime Minister who has emphasized becoming self-reliant.

“Farmers play a vital role in the development of Tripura. We have planned to use agriculture, tourism, agriculture-allied sectors including horticulture, fisheries, ARD, solar, and forest, which will be beneficial for the state’s development. Without these, development is not possible,” said the Minister.

The Minister also said that before our government came, the per capita income was Rs 1.40 lakh, and now it is Rs 1.98 lakh. After five years, the per capita income will be Rs 3.70 lakh per year by 2030, and in 2047 it will be Rs 19.86 lakh per year per person. When income increases, the price of products will also increase. We want to double the income of farmers and the income of local people.

He said in North East, the soil is very good for oil palm and for that, we have signed an agreement with Godrej Agrovet, which will cover North, Unakoti, and Dhalai Districts, and Patanjali, which will cover Khowai, West, Gomati, South, and Sepahijala. Their work is to distribute saplings and set up processing centers.

The Minister informed that as per the agreement, the two companies will establish oil palm nurseries in different districts of the state to produce the seedlings required for project implementation, and dedicated factories for processing palm kernels will be set up by the companies in the districts. The palm crops produced by the state’s farmers will be purchased directly from the farmers at their farm gate, and at least one one-stop solution center will be established to provide assistance to the farmers of the state.
