Agartala, 2nd September 2025: Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha today accused the current government of creating unrest by fostering divisions between people and adopting an undemocratic approach.
Speaking at a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, Saha raised serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
He questioned how the security administration allowed the ruling party to hold a protest in front of the State Congress Bhavan last Monday.
“The manner in which those who claim to be the largest democratic party publicly criticized the central leadership of Congress is a breach of democratic etiquette,” he said.
Saha alleged that the BJP, in its bid to remain in power, is promoting divisive politics and undermining democracy.
He also criticized the government for allegedly humiliating the Election Commission.
“Opposition MLAs are being attacked in their residences, yet no arrests are being made. Independent MLAs are now facing threats, raising questions about their security,” he added.
The Congress leader further accused the state Home Minister of being indifferent to factional disputes, party conflicts, and public safety.
He warned that if Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and the Home Minister fail to ensure the state’s security, they must be relieved of their responsibilities.
Saha also criticized Kishore Barman, Minister of Higher Education and Panchayat, for labeling opposition parties and journalists as enemies of the state government. “Such statements reflect an unconstitutional and undemocratic mindset,” he said.
He warned that unless the Chief Minister, party MLAs, and ministers restrain themselves, the Congress will actively resist as the opposition party.
Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty and other leaders were present at the press conference.
