Agartala, 6th September 2025:   Residents of Ward No. 7 in Uttar Pabiacherra under the Kumarghat Municipal Council staged a protest this morning blocking the Assam-Agartala National Highway to demand urgent action on deteriorating road conditions and inadequate drainage systems.

The demonstration led by a large group of local women began around 9 am and brought traffic to a standstill on both sides of the highway. Locals reported that over a hundred women sat on the road, chanting slogans and refusing to disperse until authorities addressed their grievances. Long queues of vehicles formed as the blockade continued for several hours.

“We’ve repeatedly appealed to the municipal council and administration, but no one listened. During the monsoon, waterlogging becomes unbearable. Dirty water enters our homes, and it’s impossible for children and the elderly to move around safely. We had no choice but to take to the streets,” said one protester.

Kumarghat police station staff and representatives from the municipal council arrived at the scene shortly after the protest began. Officials engaged with the demonstrators and assured them that steps would be taken to repair the roads and improve drainage infrastructure.

According to initial statements from the administration, a plan is being formulated to expedite the necessary civic upgrades in the affected area.
