Agartala, 9th September 2025:   Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma paid a surprise visit to Sister Nivedita Hostel in Agartala today, home to numerous students from tribal, minority, and OBC communities pursuing higher education across the city’s colleges and universities.

The visit came after social media reports highlighted infrastructural shortcomings and the challenges faced by the hostel residents. During his interaction with the students, Debbarma listened to their concerns, which ranged from day-to-day difficulties to long-standing infrastructural issues.

“This hostel is more than just a place to stay; it is the foundation of these students’ future. After completing their education, they will carry important responsibilities in society. Hence, the government is committed to ensuring that they face no obstacles in their growth,” the minister said.

He assured that the state government would hold immediate discussions with the concerned departments to resolve the issues promptly. “Our aim is to provide a safe, healthy, and conducive environment where students can focus on their studies,” he added.

The visit was warmly received by students and their guardians, who welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the hostel would soon set an example as a student-friendly institution that fosters both academic and personal development.
