Agartala, 10th September 2025:  A female passenger traveling from Silchar to Agartala was arrested at Teliamura Railway Station with a large quantity of brown sugar.

Speaking to media personnel here, Teliamura Police Station OC Jayanta Kumar Dey said, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and customs officials conducted surveillance at the station. When the train arrived, the suspect identified as Madhabi Dey from Karimganj was detained on suspicion. Upon searching her belongings in the presence of subdivision officials, authorities recovered brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway. Notably, the GRP (Government Railway Police) was reportedly unaware of the operation, raising concerns about their vigilance. Allegations have emerged suggesting that GRP officials may have deliberately turned a blind eye, allowing the station to become a hub for narcotics trafficking.
