Agartala, 16th September 2025:  The CPIM Sub-Divisional Committee of Kailashahar submitted an eight-point charter of demands to Nabaron Chakraborty, the BDO of Gournagar RD Block in Unakoti district. The delegation was led by Sub-Divisional Secretary Anjan Roy, State Committee member Bishwarup Goswami, senior party leaders Kanti Lal Deb and Bipul Sinha, among others. A five-member team formally handed over the memorandum to the BDO.

The demands focused on key public welfare issues, including: provision of adequate work under the MGNREGA scheme, prevention of political interference in PMAY housing allocations, investigation into alleged corruption in drinking water schemes such as Atal Jal Dhara and Jal Jeevan Mission, repair of rural roads, cancellation of inflated electricity bills, and withdrawal of the proposed smart meter installation plan.

Speaking to reporters, Biswarup Goswami criticized the state government for neglecting basic public needs. “From drinking water and electricity to roads and employment under MGNREGA—corruption and irregularities are rampant. We demand immediate action before the festive season, including uninterrupted work under MGNREGA and protection of legitimate beneficiaries,” he said.

He further highlighted issues such as the deteriorating condition of rural roads, erosion near riverbanks, and inflated electricity bills. “The administration remains a silent spectator while people suffer daily. If these problems are not resolved promptly, we will intensify our agitation,” Goswami warned.

Local sources indicate that the CPIM’s deputation has sparked political discussion in the area. Residents have expressed hope that the administration will take swift steps to address the demands.
