Airport police arrests two with brown sugar at Gandhigram

Agartala, 16th September 2025:   Airport Police arrested two individuals and seized 56 grams of brown sugar from a rented residence in the Gandhigram School Tilla area late last night.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the home of Samarjit Biswas, son of tenant Rabi Ranjan Biswas and recovered the contraband concealed in two soap cases along with cash. Samarjit Biswas and Nikhil Sarkar alias ‘Julu’ were taken into custody.

Police sources informed, Julu is a notorious drug trafficker from the border area under Bamutia Outpost and had previously been arrested under the NDPS Act. After serving jail time and securing bail, he allegedly resumed cross-border drug trafficking activities, including the brown sugar trade.

The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (West) and SDPO NCC Subrata Barman, along with Airport Police Station OC Abhijit Mondal and a large contingent of police and TSR personnel.

Speaking to the media personnel here, SDPO Subrata Barman stated that the seized brown sugar is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 4 lakh in the illicit market. Both accused were produced before the court today under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
