Agartala, 20th September 2025: Tensions flared outside the police headquarters on Saturday as leaders and supporters of the CPIM staged a protest condemning the alleged public burning of a woman and repeated attacks on the party’s office. A scuffle reportedly broke out between police personnel and Left activists during the demonstration, triggering unrest in the area.
Addressing the protest, CPIM leader Amal Chakraborty alleged that on September 18, Anjali Sarkar and her husband were assaulted by a group of miscreants at their shop. The attackers allegedly beat them severely and blackmailed the husband by circulating private photographs of his wife. Chakraborty claimed that despite informing the police, no action was taken. The couple was again targeted while returning from the police station after attempting to lodge a complaint.
Tragically, on the morning of September 19, Sarkar was found in a severely burnt condition at a local market and was rushed to hospital. Her husband has accused Liton Das and Manna Majumdar allegedly the nephew of ruling party MLA Jiten Majumdar of staging the attack.
The CPIM has also condemned the repeated vandalism of its offices under the BJP-led administration. According to Chakraborty, a bulldozer was driven into the party office in Pratapgarh late last night, marking yet another instance of political intimidation.
In response to these incidents, the CPIM has announced plans to intensify its agitation, including processions and further protests demanding accountability and action against rising criminal activities in the state.
