Agartala, 8th October 2025 : In a bid to ensure that every family can partake in the festive joy, the Tripura government has launched a free ration distribution program. The initiative was inaugurated by Food and Civil supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury at Fair Price Shop No. 148 in the Milon Chakra area of Agartala today.
Under the scheme, every ration card-holding family will receive 2 kg of flour, 1 kg of sugar, and 500 grams of semolina completely free of cost. Approximately 9.90 lakh families are expected to benefit from the program, with the government allocating a total of Rs 7 crore for this initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, “Shardotsav is a symbol of joy and unity. Through this initiative, we want every family, especially those dependent on ration assistance, to join in the joy of the festival. This is not just about food, but also about dignity and the spirit of the festival.”
The minister added that the scheme aims to support economically weaker families and ensure that no one is deprived during the festive season.
The inaugural event saw the presence of prominent officials, including Badharghat MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Food Department Director Sumit Lodh, and Sadar Subdivision Administrator Manik Lal Das.
The initiative is expected to bring festive cheer to thousands of families across the state, reflecting the government’s commitment to welfare and inclusive celebrations.
