KVK, Sepahijala holds training cum awareness program on “Integrated Pest Management for cucurbitaceous vegetable crops”

Agartala, 8th October 2025 :  Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sepahijala, CAU (I), Tripura organized one day training cum awareness  programme on “Integrated Pest Management for Cucurbitaceous Vegetable Crops” at Chesrimai GP, Charilam block, Sepahijala Tripura in collaboration with ICAR- NRIIPM, New Delhi today.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal and under the technical guidance of Dr. Raman Thangavelu, Director, ICAR- NRIIPM, New Delhi; Dr. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director, Directorate of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal; Dr. A. K Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya; Prof A. B. Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, CAU(I), Lembucherra, Tripura; Prof. Shravan M. Haldhar, Principal Scientist, ICAR- NRIIPM, New Delhi  and Dr. Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Sepahijala, Tripura. The objective of the programme was to aware the farmers about the use of eco-friendly pest management practices to reduce chemical pesticide use.

The programme was inaugurated by Khela Bhowmik Nath, Chairman, Charilam R.D Block; Dr Bibhas Kanti De, Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Sepahijala, Govt. of  Tripura; Pradip Debnath, Pradhan, Chesrimai GP; Prof. Shravan M. Haldhar, Principal Scientist, ICAR- NRIIPM, New Delhi  (virtual mode), Niloy Debnath, PExO, Chesrimai GP in the presence of Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK, Sepahijala;  Pijush Debbarma, Prog. Assistant (Lab. Tech.)  and others.

Khela Bhowmik Nath, Chairman, Charilam R.D Block, Sepahijala Tripura, shared her experience on organic management practices, vermicomposting etc. Dr Bibhas Kanti De, Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Sepahijala, Govt. of Tripura gave an insight into the health issue due to over use of chemical pesticides and emphasize on chemical free farming.

Prof. Shravan M. Haldhar, Principal Scientist, ICAR- NRIIPM, New Delhi enlighten the role of bio control agent, bio pesticide, pheromone trap, neem oil for residue free crop production. Pradip Debnath, Pradhan, Chesrimai GP encouraged the farmers to adopt IPM practices for more income. 

Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK-Sepahijala gave an insight into the seed treatment with biocontrol agent, use of neem cake, vermiwash, cow urine, neem leaf extract, pheromone trap, yellow sticky trap etc. A total of 20 farmers, farm women, and rural youth were actively participated in the programme and interacted with dignitaries and they are thankful to KVK Sepahijala and ICAR- NRIIPM, New Delhi for providing pheromone trap and bitter gourd seed. The program was coordinated by Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK Sepahijala.
