With the much-awaited announcement, Model Code of Conduct has come under effect in Tripura. The dates were announced during a press conference held by ECI at Rang Bhawan auditorium, AIR, New Delhi. The conference was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner of India, Rajiv Kumar, and ECI Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel.

Demands have been raised for peaceful and violence free polls in the North-eastern states.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently in power in Tripura, with Dr Manik Saha as the chief minister.

However, the announcement of CPI-M -Congress alliance has marked a tectonic shift in the state’s political landscape as Congress was known to be the prime opposition of CPI-M that ruled Tripura for 25 years before being ousted by BJP in the year 2018.

On the other hand, TIPRA Motha has also sought alliance with BJP’s ruling alliance IPFT and the talks are on positive note.

According to political analysts, the fight for power in Tripura is going to be an interesting match to see.
