Agartala, 10th October 2025 :  In a significant breakthrough following the dramatic jailbreak at Dharmanagar Sub-Jail, the North District Police have successfully arrested three of the six convicts who escaped custody on October 1. The incident took place on the morning of Navami during Durga Puja celebrations, has sparked widespread concern over jail security protocols.

The escape, reportedly caused by “extreme negligence of the jail police,” involved six inmates fleeing from the Kalikapur-based sub-jail. Acting swiftly, the North District Administration and Police launched an intensive search operation across the region. So far, Narayan Dutta, Abdul Pata, and Rahim Ali have been arrested. Rahim Ali, a resident of Uttar Phulbari village, was captured in Sribhumi district of Assam and brought back to Dharmanagar. He faces charges of theft and robbery registered at Kadamtala Police Station.

However, three fugitives Roshan Ali, notorious dacoit Nazim Uddin, and Sunil Debbarma remain at large. Authorities have intensified surveillance along state borders to prevent their escape and are interrogating the arrested individuals to uncover possible hideouts.

Speaking to reporters at Dharmanagar Police Station, Superintendent of Police Abhinash Rai confirmed that case number 88/25 has been filed in connection with the jailbreak. He also acknowledged that the incident has raised serious questions about the sub-jail’s security arrangements. In response, security measures have been reinforced and several jail staff members are under investigation.

While the arrests have brought partial relief to the local community, anxiety persists until all escapees are recaptured. The North District Police continue their statewide manhunt, determined to bring the remaining convicts to justice.
