Agartala, 11th October 2025 :  In a pre-dawn operation led by OC Smriti Kanta Bardhan, police from Jatrapur Police Station destroyed over 2,000 cannabis plants in the eastern outskirts of Monoyatila village, adjacent to a forested area under the Dakshin Bhabanipur Gram Panchayat.

The raid, conducted after a two-week hiatus, marks the fourth major crackdown targeting illegal cannabis nurseries and newly cultivated plantations in the region. Authorities say the operation dealt a significant blow to local cultivators engaged in illicit farming.

Speaking exclusively at 9:30 AM on Saturday, OC Bardhan stated, “Wherever we receive information about illegal cannabis cultivation in the Jatrapur area, we will act swiftly and decisively to destroy the plantations.” He emphasized that the drive is being carried out in compliance with directives from higher authorities and will continue against those violating the law.

The operation was based on confidential intelligence and executed without resistance. Bardhan was accompanied by Sub-Inspectors Amarkishore Debbarma and Pritam Dutta, along with approximately 20 personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

The team returned to the station by 9:30 AM after completing the raid. Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining vigilance and responding promptly to any future reports of illegal cannabis farming.
