Agartala, 11th October 2025 :  A case of suspected child abduction from East Nalchar Gram Panchayat under Melaghar Police Station has caused deep distress in the area, with the victim’s family alleging police negligence in tracing their missing daughter even after ten days.

It is reported that the incident took place on Bijoya Dashami during Durga Puja festivities when the minor girl, aged between 10 and 12 years was allegedly abducted from Ward No. 5. Her father claimed that a local resident identified as Sujit Deb from the ONGC area in Nalchar forcibly took her away.

“We lodged a complaint at Melaghar Police Station immediately, but there has been no result so far. The police had promised to recover my daughter within four days,” the father said in anguish, adding that he continues to visit the police station daily in search of updates.

Locals have expressed concern over the slow pace of investigation and urged the authorities to act swiftly to ensure the child’s safe return. Despite repeated appeals, police have yet to make any breakthrough in the case, leaving the family in a state of despair and the community alarmed over the incident.
