Agartala, 12th October 2025 : In a swift and determined operation, Tripura Police cracked a shocking murder case within hours after a 14-month-old girl’s body was found buried in a paddy field in the Padmabil area under the Panisagar sub-division of North Tripura district.
The investigation began late Saturday night when the child was reported missing. According to officials, the infant had gone out with her maternal grandfather, Joynal Uddin, and neither returned home for several hours, prompting concern among family members.
“After an extensive search by the family and locals, police were alerted. Our team immediately joined the search operation,” said Rahul Balhera, IPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Panisagar.Around midnight, the police team, assisted by villagers, made the grim discovery — the child’s body buried beneath a paddy field near the village. The area was quickly cordoned off, and forensic experts were called to the site to collect evidence.
Police registered a case on Sunday morning and launched a coordinated manhunt across district and state borders. Acting on intelligence inputs, the accused was traced and arrested from Nilambazar in Assam by afternoon.
“This was a highly sensitive case. We activated all units immediately and were able to apprehend the accused within a few hours,” SDPO Balhera said.The horrific crime has left the local community in shock and grief. Residents gathered near the victim’s home demanding justice and stricter punishment for such crimes.
The police have begun detailed interrogation of the accused while the North Tripura district administration has assured that the investigation will be pursued with the utmost seriousness.
