Agartala, 13th October 2025:   CPI(M) Politburo member and opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury has sharply criticized the BJP, accusing the RSS-backed party of attempting to rewrite the country’s history, calling them “barbaric.”

The comments came during his visit to the party office in Patichhari, which he claimed was attacked by miscreants supported by the BJP.

Chaudhury said that yesterday, the CPI(M) observed the 38th Bir Chandra Manu Martyrs’ Day across various parts of the state.

The party organized short, respectful programs to honor the martyrs, and a similar event had been arranged in Patichhari. According to him, during this event, the BJP-backed miscreants launched an attack on the gathering.

Recalling the historical context, Chaudhury highlighted that in 1988, under the coalition government, 13 people had lost their lives to fascist terror.

“At that time, there was no BJP presence in the state,” he noted, questioning why such an attack occurred on Martyrs’ Day now that the BJP is in power. He demanded to know the motive behind the assault on a day meant to pay tribute to the martyrs.

In addition to targeting the state BJP, Chaudhury also condemned the central BJP government and the RSS in strong terms. He accused the ruling party of attempting to erase history and reconstruct the past according to their own narrative.

“They are trying to reshape the country’s history by erasing its true past,” he said, emphasizing that such actions are part of a larger effort to manipulate historical memory for political gain.

Chowdhury’s statements reflect ongoing tensions between the CPI(M) and the BJP in Tripura, particularly around historical narratives and public commemorations of regional martyrs. He urged citizens and political observers to remain vigilant against attempts to distort historical facts and highlighted the importance of honoring the sacrifices of those who fought against oppression in the past.
