Journalist Recreation Club marks sixth anniversary with vibrant celebration and groundstaff felicitation

Agartala, 13th October 2025:   The Journalist Recreation Club (JRC) celebrated its sixth foundation day on Sunday with a lively and heartfelt ceremony at the Agartala Press Club’s conference hall. The event not only commemorated the club’s journey since its inception in 2020 but also introduced a unique initiative to honour groundstaff working across the state’s cricket and football fields.

Founded to promote camaraderie and recreation among journalists through sports and cultural activities, JRC has grown into a dynamic community over the past six years. Members have participated in over a hundred friendly matches and engaged in various journalist-friendly and social initiatives.

This year, the club turned its spotlight on the unsung heroes of the sporting world — the groundstaff. Skilled workers from multiple cricket and football venues across Tripura were formally felicitated for their dedication and contribution to sports infrastructure. The gesture was met with overwhelming appreciation, with many honourees expressing renewed motivation and emotional gratitude.

Distinguished guests at the event included Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, Secretary Ramakanta Dey, senior sports journalist Saraju Chakraborty, and renowned physician and social worker Dr. Ranbir Roy. JRC President Suprabhat Debnath presided over the ceremony, while General Secretary Abhishek Dey delivered the welcome address.

Other key members who actively participated in the felicitation included Vice President Anirban Deb, Joint Secretary Abhishek Debbarma, Treasurer Meghdhan Deb, and executive and general members such as Biswajit Debnath, Subrata Debnath, Prasenjit Saha, Pranab Shil, Mridul Chakraborty, Tapas Deb, Milton Dhar, Bishnupada Banik, Bapan Das, Dibyendu Dey, and Manojit Das.

Among the cricket ground honourees were Swapan Kumar Dey, Alok Sarkar, Jiban Ghosh, Pranayjit Saha, Pradip Kumar Saha, Debashish Banik, Rupak Dey, Shubhankar Debnath, Bikram Sarkar, Pradip Das, Pranab Roy, Liton Das, Binoy Saha, Piyush Biswas, Subhash Rudrapal, Indrajit Biswas, Rabindra Namah, Gautam Pal, Subal Debnath, Bidyut Nag, Ratan Bardhan, Bishwanath Barman, Abhijit Kar, Narayan Sarkar, Ramprasad Sarkar, Sadhan Debnath, Liton Debnath, Bimal Das, Sujit Choudhury, Dipak Bhadra, Manindra Sarkar, Gautam Bardhan, Swapan Sarkar, Subodh Deb, Sanju Ghosh, Satyajit Choudhury, Ratan Patari, Anup Das, and Joynal Bhuiya.

Football ground honourees included Dulal Chandra Deb, Uttam Saha, Swapan Dey, Bijoy Rishi Das, Haru Das, and Sudip Sarkar.

The event was anchored by renowned host Shubhrajit Bhattacharya, whose eloquence added a special dimension to the proceedings. The celebration was further enriched by the support of social worker Seema Dasgupta, Tripura Football Association Vice President Amit Deb, Joint Secretary Tapan Saha, and Referee Association Secretary Narayan Deb.

Concluding the event, JRC President Suprabhat Debnath extended heartfelt thanks to all contributors and attendees, marking the occasion as a milestone in the club’s journey of fostering unity, recognition, and social engagement within the journalistic community.
