Agartala, 14th October 2025:  Chemotherapy services are expected to be operational at Dhalai District Hospital within the next two to three months, pending final preparations. The announcement was made by Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik, Medical Superintendent of the hospital told this reporter today.

Dr. Bhowmik confirmed that a team from the National Health Mission (NHM) has already inspected the facility. Initially, four beds will be allocated for chemotherapy patients. Once the service is launched, cancer patients from the district will no longer need to travel to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Hospital in Agartala, as treatment will be available locally.

“There are only a few minor works left, which will be completed soon,” Dr. Bhowmik stated, adding that the new service will significantly benefit cancer patients across the district’s subdivisions.

In a related development, a team from the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) visited the hospital between September 24 and 26. According to Dr. Bhowmik, the team reviewed operations across 17 departments and conducted interviews with healthcare staff. The hospital has already received clearance at both the district and state levels and is now awaiting national-level approval.

“The inspection team expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s standards,” Dr. Bhowmik said. “If national clearance is granted, the hospital will be able to offer even more advanced services in the future.”

Currently, Dhalai District Hospital is the only facility in Tripura to have secured district and state-level clearances. Dr. Bhowmik credited the hospital’s staff for their tireless efforts and expressed optimism about the hospital’s future prospects.
