Agartala, 18th October 2025 : Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has strongly condemned the installation of unauthorized promotional flexes across Tripura, calling it a deliberate attempt to malign the state government and the Department of Tourism ahead of the Deepawali festival on October 20.
In a video message released today, Chowdhury clarified that the controversial flexes featuring images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and himself placed above that of Mata Tripureshwari were neither designed nor approved by the Tourism Department. The placement of the deity’s image below political figures has sparked widespread outrage across the state, with many viewing it as a sign of disrespect.
“This is a deep-rooted conspiracy by certain ill-intentioned individuals to tarnish the image of the government and the Tourism department,” Chowdhury stated, urging citizens not to be misled by the misleading visuals.
He further announced that the department will begin installing official flexes from tonight or early tomorrow morning in various parts of the state, ensuring that they reflect the cultural and religious sentiments of the people appropriately.
The controversy has triggered a wave of public concern, especially given the timing ahead of one of the state’s most significant festivals. Chowdhury reiterated that the government remains committed to preserving the sanctity of religious icons and upholding public trust.
