Agartala, 23rd October 2025: Members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Tripura Students’ Union (TSU) staged a protest march in Agartala today, condemning an alleged police assault on schoolchildren in South Tripura’s Ramraibari Higher Secondary School.
The incident took place yesterday morning when students of the school locked its main gate and demonstrated against the transfer of two teachers. During the protest, Assistant Sub-Inspector Maran Baidya from the Baikhora police station allegedly baton-charged the students, injuring several minors. Five students were reportedly hospitalized following the incident.
In response, SFI and TSU organized a protest rally that began near the Student-Youth Centre at Melarmath and proceeded through Battala, culminating in a demonstration outside the Education Department headquarters. Protesters demanded accountability for the police action and criticized the state’s education administration for what they described as regressive policies.
SFI leaders accused the police of attacking a democratic student movement and claimed the incident reflects a broader decline in Tripura’s education system. They called for immediate action against the officer involved and urged the government to address the concerns of students and educators across the state.
