Agartala, 23rd October 2025: Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma today expressed the Tripura government’s deep dissatisfaction over recent bandh-related disruptions, asserting that the administration remains committed to tribal development despite public unrest.
Speaking at a press conference held at the state secretariat here, Debbarma emphasized that no previous Prime Minister has shown as much concern for tribal communities as Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also praised Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, stating that his dedication to tribal welfare surpasses that of any of his predecessors.
“Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have signed agreements specifically aimed at uplifting tribal communities,” Debbarma said, urging critics to allow time for implementation. “The government is not divine. Problems that persisted for 70–75 years cannot be solved in just 18 months. Implementation will happen, but it requires patience,” he added.
Highlighting progress made since the current government took office, Debbarma pointed to significant strides in education and economic development among tribal populations. He noted that the community has received unprecedented recognition, including seven to eight Padma Shri awards in recent years.
He also cited the appointment of Jishnu Debbarma, a member of Tripura’s royal family, as the Governor of Telangana as a symbol of the respect accorded to tribal leaders under the present administration.
“This government has given tribal people dignity they never imagined,” Debbarma said, adding that the community now has tangible reasons to feel proud of its representation and achievements.
