Agartala, 24th October 2025:   Members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a gherao of the South Tripura Superintendent of Police’s office today, protesting what they described as a brutal police assault on students demonstrating for the transfer of a teacher at Ramraibari Higher Secondary School.

Led by student leader Amir Hossain, the protest drew a large turnout of NSUI activists and students demanding accountability for the incident. Protesters alleged that police resorted to a violent lathi-charge against school students who were peacefully agitating for a faculty transfer. They further claimed that individuals affiliated with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with local mafias, physically harassed and dragged students in the presence of law enforcement.

NSUI leaders condemned the incident as “barbaric, undemocratic, and deeply shameful,” calling it a reflection of the government’s authoritarian mindset. “This attack on students is not just unexpected—it’s a direct assault on democratic values,” the leadership stated.

The organization demanded the immediate suspension of the police officer allegedly identified by students as being involved in the assault. They also called on the state government to clarify under whose orders the police used force against schoolchildren, urging the administration to provide a public explanation.

Additionally, NSUI insisted that those who attacked students under the guise of BJP affiliation be booked and arrested without delay. The leadership warned that unless justice is served, they will launch a statewide democratic movement to hold the perpetrators accountable.
