Agartala, 11th November 2025:  Residents of Ward No. 5 in Purba Pratyekrai village under Kalachhara Block staged a road blockade in Dharmanagar today, demanding immediate restoration of safe drinking water supply.

The protest took place along the main road connecting Dharmanagar to Kadamtala saw both men and women from the village gathering in large numbers. Villagers claim they have been deprived of filtered drinking water for the past one and a half months, forcing them to rely on unsafe sources such as shallow tube wells and stagnant ponds.

“This is not just an inconvenience, it’s a health hazard. Our children are falling sick, and the authorities have done nothing despite repeated appeals,” said one protester.

According to the villagers, multiple complaints were submitted to the local panchayat and administrative officials, but no action has been taken. The lack of response has fueled anger and raised questions about governance and accountability in the region.

Health officials have previously warned that untreated water poses serious risks, especially to children and the elderly. Villagers fear long-term consequences if the situation continues.

Today’s blockade is being seen as a direct indictment of local governance. Protesters held placards questioning the government’s development slogans, asking, “How can there be progress when basic necessities like drinking water are denied?”

The residents have warned that if their demands are not met promptly, they will escalate their agitation in the coming days.
