Agartala, 24th November 2025: Following the issuance of a new state government notification, three senior community health guides broke down in tears outside the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday morning.
Holding their layoff notices, they appealed, “Chief Minister, please save us,” as they tried to meet the CM in desperation.
The three elderly women had been working for several years in various state health programs as community health guides. However, the recent government directive stated that all community health guides above the age of 60 would be terminated from service starting November 1. As per this order, the three women have now lost their jobs.
Suddenly rendered unemployed, they find themselves facing extreme financial uncertainty. One of them said, “At this age, if we fall sick, how will we afford the medicines we need? Managing household expenses and responsibilities seems impossible now—just staying alive has become a struggle.”
Despite their attempts, they were unable to meet the Chief Minister. Expressing their despair, they added, “At this moment, it feels like there is no path left for us except death.”
The incident drew the attention of Subrata Debnath, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, who assured them that the matter would be brought to the government’s notice. He also personally arranged for the three elderly women to be safely escorted back to their homes.
