Agartala, 27th   November 2025:  Bishramganj police have arrested a 24-year-old man identified as Biku Debbarma on charges of stealing and setting fire to a school student’s motorcycle. The accused hails from Koshal Para in Pathalia Ghat village under Jampuijala RD block.

Police sources informed that the incident took place on the night of November 25 when Halk Jamatia (18), a Class XII student of Don Bosco (St. Xavier’s) School in Dewanbazar, parked his Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 bearing registration number TR07H 5252 in the veranda of his rented accommodation. Around 11 pm, after finishing his studies, he discovered the bike missing and the gate of the house left open.

Alarmed, the student raised a cry for help, drawing neighbors to the spot. A search ensued, and within minutes the bike was found ablaze near a culvert about 300 meters away. The sight of the burning motorcycle shocked residents, who immediately informed Bishramganj police and the local fire service.

The incident sparked tension across Dewanbazar, a locality where many students reside in rented houses while pursuing studies at St. Xavier’s. With several students owning bikes and scooters, the act of arson triggered widespread fear among them.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Bishramganj police registered Case No. 29/2025 under Sections 331(4)/305/326(f) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Within 48 hours, police arrested Biku Debbarma from his residence late at night. On Thursday afternoon, he was produced before the Vishalgarh court.

OC Ajit Debbarma confirmed the arrest and said the burnt motorcycle has been seized and brought to the police station. Local residents have expressed satisfaction with the swift police action.
